El 15 de octubre de 1982 en las faldas del volcán Tolimán, en terrenos de la finca San Francisco Miramar, luego de varios días de enfrentamientos con unidades del ejército, combatientes del Frente Guerrillero Javier Tambriz, de la Organización del Pueblo en Armas, impactaron con fuego antiaéreo un helicóptero militar que se hacía acompañar de un avión Pilatus. El daño causado al helicóptero HL FAG Bel 412 hizo que se precipitara a tierra. Más tarde llegó a bombardear el área un avión de combate A-37.
